A Somewhat Disapointing CD Feb 01, 2001
By Butch

I purchased this CD thinking it would be more or less like the original sound track of the "Victory At Sea" TV series. It falls short in that respect. The music on this CD is of very good quality from a classical point of view but only track 10 called "Victory At Sea" which lasts 11 minutes is what I consider to be true music from the TV series and movie. The rest of the music has a nautical theme but looking at the front label makes you think you are getting all "Victory At Sea" selections. I would not purchase this CD if the sound track music is what you are looking for. If you just want good military band music with a hint of the "Victory at Sea" theme then this would probably be a good buy.

Great CD! Jan 19, 2001
By Angela Willoughby This is an excellent CD. The US Navy band is one of the best musical ensembles in the world, and this CD proves it! My personal favorite is the selection "Songs of Sailor and Sea". I was fortunate to have performed this piece with a highschool state honor band, and it is extremely difficult to play, both technically and musically. All of the other selections are wonderful, also. I think anyone would enjoy this CD.

Victory at Sea, US Navy Band Mar 17, 2000
very good, but not the expected NBC Orchestas version (original). Especially, Anchors aweigh was a bit of a disappointment. Arrangement could use a lot more polish - Sousa style!

The US Navy Band Mar 13, 2009
By Michael W. Beegle
"Mike The Sax"
How could it be anything but great? A sensitive interpretation of Richard Rodger's beautiful melodies scored by Robert Russell Bennett, the soundtrack for the TV series "Victory at Sea". This is a condensed version of a score that is over twelve hours long, for a video history of naval battles of WWII in the Pacific Theater. Navy music played by the US Navy Band stationed at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC. What could be more fitting!
Been There Done It Mar 22, 2009
By El Lippo Having served as a musician in the United States Navy, this recording is a 'must have' for me. As per usual, Navy musicians (and musicians in other branches) offer superior musicianship.
