The painted pot metal bracket we got with our flag lasted a few years--until a tornado passed by and broke the assembly off the mounting base. I went to the local home improvement warehouse and picked up a plastic replacement for $8 (it was the only one they had for 1" flag poles) but it snapped on the second day.
This aluminum bracket is seriously heavy duty. The casting is kind of rough, but how nice does a flag bracket really need to be? You could polish it or paint it if necessary. It comes with four Phillips-head wood screws and four plastic anchors. The screws were quality--the heads didn't immediately strip like the ones I got with the plastic mount.
If you need to mount a flag (or something else with a 1" diameter), this is the ticket. I expect it to outlast the house.
